Make a donation
There are many ways to support the Endowment that will benefit the Cathedral while at the same time, meeting your personal financial goals. Please consider the following methods of giving which may be received into the Annunciation Cathedral Endowment Foundation. Contact us in advance to get guidance and explore giving options…
Cash Donation - This is the easiest and most popular method of donations to the Endowment, and is tax deductible.
Permanent Memorial - Something intended to celebrate or honor the memory of a person or an event. Through a memorial gift, you can celebrate or honor the life or contributions of a family member or friend.
A gift in honor of others can be especially thoughtful. There are a number of ways to make a memorial donation. There may be no better way to honor a loved one or special friend.
A minimum donation of five hundred dollars will place the name of a deceased family member or parishioner on a special permanent plaque. A marble plaque, instituted by the Foundation, is prominently displayed in the front hallway next to the plaques dedicated to the Cathedral’s founders.
For those richly blessed, a larger donation is encouraged so that assets can be built quickly to provide income benefits to the Parish. All gifts will be individually recognized.
Appreciated Stock or Asset - Pay No Tax and get a deduction! Another simple way to contribute valuable financial assets to the Endowment. A stock or other asset which has appreciated in value may be donated to the Foundation in lieu of money. The donor will get a charitable deduction equal to the full current value of the stock or asset and will not have to pay any capital gains taxes. Please contact us for procedures for accomplishing these kinds of donations.
A Bequest in Your Will - An easy way to leave an endowment gift. A bequest to the Greek Orthodox Cathedral of the Annunciation of Atlanta Endowment through your will is simple and easy. One method is to have a codicil (supplement) to your will stating "I give the rest, residue, and remainder of my estate (or dollar amount, or a fractional portion, such as 25%) to the Annunciation Cathedral Endowment Foundation". This is the most common planned gift and one that can provide you with valuable estate tax savings.
Life Insurance - A large gift with a small cost. This is a simple way to make a sizable charitable contribution through the gift of life insurance policy when it is no longer needed for your family's protection. Another way is to purchase a new life insurance policy naming the Endowment Foundation as the beneficiary. Gift purchases a zero commission life insurance policy designed to help build charitable endowments. Insures substantial gift to the endowment at a very low cost and all contributions are tax-deductible. Contribution can be spread over as many as five years.
A Charitable Trust - Substantial benefits to donor. If you own low-yielding assets like real estate or securities that have appreciated in value, and your objective is to sell those assets and re-invest in higher income instruments, a charitable trust may be your answer. Instead of selling those assets and incurring tax at the time of sale, donate them to a Charitable Trust. A Charitable Trust can help you avoid income and estate gift taxes and still allow you to receive income during your lifetime from a valuable asset.
Living Gifts – Honor Gift Programs. Endowment gifts may be a direct contribution by the donor or a gift given in the “honor” of an individual. All donations will be acknowledged to the donor and the designated honoree specifying the occasion such as a birthday, anniversary, wedding, baptism, etc. Donations in any amount are greatly appreciated and needed, however, a minimum cumulative donation of $1,000.00 must be made for the plaque listing.
Please Note:
Tax laws and forms of donations change over time. This Endowment advises you to make sure you consult with a professional who is up to date on the latest regulations and that you fully understand the tax effects of your donation. If you need assistance, or have any questions, please contact a member of the Endowment Officers, or call the Greek Orthodox Cathedral of the Annunciation of Atlanta, GA at 404-633-5870.
You can both Give and Receive - Charity offers its own rewards. Planned giving is the science of using tax laws, trusts and life insurance to maximize your proposed donated asset.
Professional Help - The Cathedral’s Endowment Foundation has professional estate planners available who have volunteered their confidential services, free of charge to the donor, to help select the most advantageous methods to meet your goals. The Foundation also recommends that you consult with your personal legal, financial, or tax advisor.
Income from substantial donations can be earmarked for specific purposes as the donor wishes.
